When your upper posterior teeth are removed, your sinus may drop down and decrease the bone height in your upper jaw. In these situations, you may benefit from a sinus graft or sinus lift to correct this problem by building the bone necessary for dental implants and restore the proper height to your sinus. Depending on the amount of bone available at the time of your procedure, if sufficient bone quality exists to stabilize the implant, it may be possible to place the bone graft and implant in the same procedure. Otherwise, it may be necessary to perform the sinus graft first and wait for the graft to mature for several months first. Once the graft has matured and healed, the implants can be placed. Every patient is unique and Dr. Dara Lee can discuss the best options for you during your initial evaluation. Undergoing sinus lift surgery has been shown to greatly increase your chances for successful implants and long-term results.
